In my day, I was a pretty good player. Not high level, but probably Division Two college level as I played against these players and more than held my own. I recall one time being at the Y and there was a girl who said she was a point guard for a college team. She challenged me to one-on-one. She was actually bigger than me as I'm very short but was exceptionally quick, so I had that advantage, but what struck me was how overtly physical she was. All she did to offset my quickness was continually hand check as if this was common practice. And I think back in the day, hand checking was allowed. It was ridiculous. However, I did beat her but it was a struggle.
