I wouldn't be so extreme as to say any of those phrases are a dead give-away because some of them are cliched expressions that many people use, and they're not always bad writing -- that's being pedantic and not really understanding what good writing is -- something that moves us emotionally, that places the reader in the scene of the action. If it does that, it can break some of the so-called rules.
